“Impartiality and fairness” is the key in AP’s social media policies. The AP recognizes the value of social-networking sites as an “important tool” for gathering news, prohibits employees from posting internal materials or news stories that have not yet been published by the AP, and applies the rules to all employees. The policies weigh on the actual contents of posts, i.e., what can/cannot be posted. But there is a lack of details as to how to manage the sites, such as joining/following certain groups/people, and what to do/not do when using the sites as news gathering tools.
